Mr. Churchill《The Power of the Words 》 [咖啡]關鍵詞: 知己知彼務實應對 🍑方程式:見證併改變歷史=英軍非洲記者+被俘逃生+見證一戰+最早預警德國威脅+領導英國抗德5年+羅斯福去世+斯大林去世+宣佈冷戰 1. On Nazi cruelty & fighting power (original excerpts) “This man has gathered round him the most formidable apparatus of tyranny and military force the world has ever seen. The Nazi movement is armed with science, organised for violence, fed by hatred. Its armies move with terrible speed and striking power; its secret police inflicts cruelties which darken the story of modern man.” “Hitler’s Germany possesses immense military virtue. The discipline, the bravery, the mechanical skill of German soldiers are not to be denied. But all this strength is harnessed to a creed of ruthless domination, to the trampling down of small nations, to the persecution of whole races.” 2. Churchill’s diagnosis of Nazi weaknesses (original excerpts) “For all their martial prowess, the Nazi system bears fatal weaknesses. It is built upon fear and lies. It unites by oppression; it can only rule by suppressing truth. Its internal unity rests on terror, not consent. It triumphs so long as it wins quick victories; it cannot endure prolonged set‑backs. The structure will strain and crack when hopes of easy conquest fade.” “He has conquered many peoples, but he has not won their hearts. Subject nations wait for his hour of weakness. His empire is an empire held down by bayonets.” 3. Churchill’s counter‑strategy / response (original excerpts) “If you ask what is our policy? I will say: It is to wage war, by sea, land and air, with all our might and with all the strength that God can give us; to wage war against a monstrous tyranny, never surpassed in the dark, lamentable catalogue of human crime. That is our policy. If you ask what is our aim? I can answer in one word: Victory. Victory at all costs. Victory in spite of all terror. Victory however long and hard the road may be; for without victory there is no survival.” (House of Commons, 13 May 1940) “We shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing‑grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.” (4 June 1940) “Resist, endure, unite. Combine the stubborn will of the British Islands with the resources of the free world. Defeat cannot be final so long as free men refuse to bow.”
