This book tells a story that an unnamed scientist, simply known as the Time Traveller, who invents a machine which could travel through time. This machine takes him to the year 802,701, where he encounters two distinct races: the Eloi who live in a utopian like society, and the Morlocks, who dwell underground and prey upon the Eloi.
