In Praise of Idleness 讚美閒散（英文版）

Nobel laureate and philosopher Bertrand Russell wasn’t just daydreaming when he penned this classic. He declared: "拼命勞作已是老皇曆，現代社會不需要奴隸制" (Slavish hard work is outdated—we’re not in the slave era anymore!). His radical idea? Cut the workday to 4 hours, freeing humans to actually live instead of grind. Russell argued that “過勞並不高尚——是無謂”overwork isn’t noble—it’s nonsense. “休閒不是偷懶，而是解放”Leisure isn’t laziness; it’s liberation. With modern tech, we could all thrive on minimal work, yet we’re stuck in a cycle of "productivity theater."（“生產力”劇情） He quipped: If everyone worked less, we’d avoid both burnout and unemployment (no more "busywork factories"!). 在大模型、AI、機器人大行其道的今天，我們目睹着諷刺的一幕：一些人筋疲力盡地“過勞”，另一些人卻在忍飢挨餓，還有一些人選擇了“躺平”。技術驅動的產能過剩與產品豐富度越高，財富分配機制的公平性就越需經受考驗。貧困已非宿命，幾代人勞碌不息更不該是常態。

羅素英語寫作就是得了便宜，難怪有個諾獎。羅素的閒散（4小時日工作，其他時間快樂追求知識）社會像簡單遊戲模型一樣，要是人人都玩的確解決很多問題，但是一方面天性難移積重難返，另一方面少數派只會被污名化又是新的階級。

那些動不動寫一兩千頁書的都來看看，這本35頁的的內容和思辨不亞於一部囉裏八嗦的長篇鉅著。

Leisure is essential to civilization, and in former times leisure for the few was only rendered possible by the labours of the many. But their labours were valuable, not because work is good, but because leisure is good.

羅素一百年前寫的東西，放到現在來看完全是預言並且完全不過時。雖然他在文中寫到了文科在生活中的實用較少，但文章本身的時代已經超越了社會和時代。 羅素在論文集中一直反駁俄羅斯共產主義和集權政府，但全文讀下來能感受到他是強烈的共產主義者，想必看到現在的中國他一定覺得實現了很多夢想。

雖然題目標得英文版，但其實裏面是有翻譯的。
