Harry Haller, a lonely middle‑aged intellectual, believes he is split into two beings: a civilized human and a wild, lonely “Steppenwolf”. Trapped in inner conflict and spiritual despair, he meets Hermina, Pablo and Maria. Later he enters the magical “Magic Theatre”, a dream‑like world where he confronts many different parts of himself. The book teaches that human personality contains countless selves, and we need self‑acceptance to achieve inner peace.
