It is estimated that at least 125 million copies of McGuffey Readers were sold till the year of 1960, placing its sales in a category with the Bible and Webster's Dictionary .The fourth reader was an introduction to good literature. It contained British poetry and used the Bible among its selections. It discussed Napoleon Bonaparte, Puritan fathers, women, God, education, religion and philosophy.

根據看懂七八成的標準擇冊而讀就好。 內容上，每讀一兩篇故事，便會出現一篇詩歌，這種模式我挺喜歡。 故事大多偏童話、傳說、小情景劇，難點詞彙、小科普在篇末會有英英釋義，課後習題不多，整體感覺更注重閱讀體驗；詩歌方面，應該都是美國曆史著名的詩人作品，微讀自帶的機器閱讀雖無法完全還原音調韻律，但也能很好地輔助朗讀。
