《We Have Always Lived in the Castle》是美国著名女作家雪莉·杰克逊哥特小说代表作。
有些句子很惊心，是读翻译的时候没察觉到的，摘： ☞She sat on the rose sofa with our mother’s portrait looking down on her, and I sat in my small chair in the corner and watched. ☞ I thought that perhaps they were only pretending to play, because they were children and were supposed to play, but perhaps they were actually sent here to look for us, thinly disguised as children. ☞I could see her mouth from the side and it was the mouth of a snake. ☞I could see his feet. One of them was tapping and tapping on the floor of our porch.
It was this book that truly turned me into a devoted fan of Shirley Jackson!
