毛姆經典短篇：Red.阿赤

看完突然想到《基督山伯爵》中的一句話： "When you compare the sorrows of real life to the pleasures of the imaginary one, you will never want to live again, only to dream for ever." 渴盼一睹落日餘暉的人們竭盡全力爬上高山，卻發現山頂被濃霧籠罩，因此只得鎩羽而歸。可是想象中夕陽西下的浪漫，會一直是他們內心的一抹柔光。 “They suffered, but they suffered in beauty.”

“Will you be gone long?” We can’t love anymore after time wore out our beauty and soul.

The handsome young man and beautiful woman, Red Hair and Sally, fell in love at first sight, harboring mutual admiration—a simple, pure form of affection. A year later, Red-haired left Sally without warning or farewell, never to return, leaving her with boundless sorrow and lingering hope... She was utterly immersed in the beautiful memories of the past, firmly believing that Redhair would return to her, while remaining indifferent to the admiration and devotion she felt for Nelson, who later became her husband. This gradually shattered Nielsen's heart; eventually, he exhausted all his patience, grew indifferent, and ultimately left Sari... Time is a deadly knife; through its silent erosion, the once handsome men and beautiful women have turned into shabby old men and plump old women—so much so that years later, upon meeting again, they fail to recognize each other!
