There is neither happiness nor misery in the world; there is only the comparison of one state with another, nothing more.

Perhaps those prayers may soften the remorse he feels in his heart. As for you, Morrel, this is the secret of my conduct towards you. There is neither happiness nor misery in the world; there is only the comparison of one state with another, nothing more. He who has felt the deepest grief is best able to experience supreme happiness. We must have felt what it is to die, Morrel, that we may appreciate the enjoyments of living. “Live, then, and be happy, beloved children of my heart, and never forget that until the day when God shall deign to reveal the future to man, all human wisdom is summed up in these two words,—‘Wait and hope.’—

Live, then, and be happy, beloved children of my heart, and never forget that until the day when God shall deign to reveal the future to man, all human wisdom is summed up in these two words, —‘Wait and hope” What an absolute masterpiece, and so far the longest book I've ever read. I was in so much fear that Edmond would kill himself at the end of the book. It take astonishing courage to forgive, and even more tremendous courage to live on a life bearing one's actions and consequences, be it right or wrong. The Providence will have its judgement. Have hope and be resilient. Edmond Dantes, I'm sure you shall live a brilliant life with Haydee to wherever the horizon extends to in this world.

Remembered it ever took me 2 months to complete reading this magnanimous masterpiece during the pandemic, 3 years ago. Loved it very much because it brought me huge imagination about framing, jail, endurance, courage, treasure, revenge, love&life… A few days ago I would have read it again, but finally I recoiled because I couldn’t afford the disastrous consequence - I had to upgrade my near-sight glasses at my own greater expense if I could finish it once again, I supposed. Fortunately I found the AI reading function, and by it I was easily done reading ( listening) it once more time. It’s soooooo…great👍

The Count of Monte Cristo(基督山伯爵) “All human wisdom is summed up in these two words--'Wait and hope'!”
